Artist Residency
Fundación Casa Mi Rey offers immersive artist residencies for visual artists, performers, video artists, and land artists. Each residency provides time and space for creative exploration in a peaceful, natural setting. Residents stay in a dedicated studio space within the estate, surrounded by lush landscapes and ocean views. The open-plan studio, with no air conditioning, encourages connection with nature and creative focus.Studio Visits
As part of the Biolumina Project, Fundación Casa Mi Rey organizes artist home studio tours, opening the doors of our creative spaces to the public. These visits allow guests to engage directly with artists, explore their creative processes, and experience art in an intimate setting.Workshops
We offer a range of artist-led workshops designed to foster skill-sharing and creative dialogue. Workshops cover various media and approaches, encouraging experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration. -
At the end of each residency, participating artists are invited to donate a work or trace of their time in Vieques. This contribution enriches the growing Casa Mi Rey Collection, which serves as a visual archive of the creative energy fostered at the residency. The collection reflects each artist’s unique interaction with the island’s environment and community, creating an ongoing dialogue between past and present residents.
The donation can take various forms — a physical artwork, a digital piece, video documentation of a performance or land art, or even photographs capturing the process behind a video or performance. Artists are also encouraged to leave a more permanent legacy by planting a tree along the edges of the property (without obstructing the ocean view), contributing to the island’s natural landscape and leaving a living imprint of their time at Casa Mi Rey.
The Casa Mi Rey Collection stands as a testament to the residency’s impact, celebrated and shared with a global audience.

Fundación Casa Mi Rey was founded by artist and curator Marco Caridad, with his husband, Alexander Maximo Gonzalez, after building their home in Vieques as a private retreat. Inspired by the island’s raw beauty and rich cultural landscape, Marco envisioned his studio at Casa Mi Rey as a creative retreat — a space where artists from around the world could engage with the rhythms of island life and create work that reflects this unique environment.
As the driving force behind the Foundation, Marco’s passion for creative dialogue and meaningful exchange shapes every aspect of its mission — from selecting residents to curating programs that foster collaboration and artistic exploration. The Foundation’s team and advisory board reflect this multidisciplinary spirit, offering expertise across various fields to support the development and legacy of Casa Mi Rey.
